Baratheon Door Knocker (cont)

Just wanted to post my progress, slow that it may be.  It is coming along nicely.  I need to make a few other tweeks to it before I start painting, but it’s coming along.  Also, I may want to start on a Dragon head door knocker because of the Gnomon monthly challenge.  I have a few good ideas, and I’ve been wanting to use my dragon anatomy chart:Image

Deer Antlers

I know it’s been more than a week since I’ve posted, but I’ve been pretty busy.  I’ve actually been able to make some headway with a project I’ve been working on to make doorknockers for each house of the Game of Thrones series (great series, have yet to read the books, I know, Blasphemy!)  I got the idea when doing a tutorial in the first chapter of Scott Spencer’s ZBrush Character Creation book, which is to make a Lion Head doorknocker.  No need to say which house that one’s for.  I thought it would be fun to make each house and make the colors of the door knocker and door correspond with the  house colors.  I also wanted to mess with making antlers.

Here’s a bit of my tinkering.  I made the head shape from a 3d plane and the antlers from a cone tool.  I used the deformation tool to get the initial shape and bend and then used the move brush to make the additional juts.  I really like how the antlers came out. I think my next step is to cut around the head to separate it from the rest of the plane, then make a base plate and then present the door, textures and paint.  I can’t wait to see how this comes out!  Again, I would love any tips, tricks or tutorials that anyone knows of for cutting, texturing or painting as I’m not 100% familiar with those techniques in Zbrush.

Thanks for stopping by! =)

 This morning …

This morning was quite productive.  I started out with doing the dishes, cleaning the back yard, and then I sat down to practice some facial anatomy.  This was just practice, but I can see this technique really coming in handy in the future.

I plan on adding fat and skin soon, but as far as paint and texture are concerned, I will leave that for another time.

What really interests me is how I will need to plan out the skeletal structure of the face if I plan on using this technique for future portraits.

Awesome Furniture

This is pretty amazing.  I’m not usually one for interior design, but I can definitely see this in my man cave some day (fingers crossed for man cave).

Another few minutes of work this week. I got to use the transpose tool to pose the trunk. I like the way this is looking, but I know I am very far away from an end result.

Hello world!  This is one of my first blogs, so let me try to introduce myself properly.  My name is Mike and I’m a pretty laid back kind of guy who really enjoys art in the digital medium.  In the past, I’ve worked with Photoshop, After Effects and a number of other programs, however, I really was interested in 3D graphics and animation.  I’ve recently been taking continuing education courses at ACC and have had a great time learning the ins and outs of 3ds max.

I plan on this being an open forum for anyone who would like to leave criticism about any of my projects.  If you have worked with 3ds Max in the past, I’m always looking for new tutorials and projects to sink my teeth into, so if you wouldn’t mind pointing me in the right direction, I would really appreciate that.  If you would like to work with me on a project, I would absolutely love to hear about it.  Please leave a comment on the main page and I promise to get back to you within 24-48 hours of posting.

Most of the things that are being posted at this time are class works, and may be a bit rough.  Don’t hold back, I want to know everything I’m doing wrong and everything I can do to improve them.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my site and I look forward to learning from you all. =)

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. I’ve taken on several projects; most stemming from competitions and tutorials, but a few from my own undertaking.

It’s also been one hell of a week! The past few days I’ve got to check out this year’s ScreenBurn which was pretty amazing. I think the best showing in my opinion was for the upcoming MMORPG FireFall. More to come later, but I’ll leave you with this for now:
